Whether it's learning the basics of audio and radio production, getting in the Globe Radio studio to become an on-air personality, or announcing live collegiate athletic events, every year students at Salt Lake Community College have a unique opportunity to become a part of the Globe Radio team.
The Communication Department at Salt Lake Community College offers multiple courses which provide any SLCC student the chance to gain valuable experience in the world of radio. Globe Radio is the platform for students to develop their abilities in front of and behind the microphone.
COMM 1515 Basic Audio Production
Department: Communication
Credits: 3-
Description: A broad overview of sound, sound systems, recording, and live sound reinforcement providing basic training in the physics of sound and the hardware and systems used to control and record it. No prerequisites.
COMM 1560 Radio Production
Department: Communication
Credits: 2-
Description: Prereq: Concurrent with COMM 1561. This course provides instruction and experience in the prod- uction of audio programs for radio, including the history, career opportunities, issues, and techniques of radio. The student radio station provides daily student participation.
COMM 1561 Radio Production Lab
Department: Communication
Credits: 1-
Description: Prereq: Concurrent with COMM 1560. This is the lab portion of the Radio Production class. Students will use the radio lab facilities to complete audio projects and/or to do on-air work on the student radio station.
COMM 2560 Radio Performance
Department: Communication
Credits: 1-
Description: Prereq: Concurrent with COMM 2561. This advanced radio performance class provides advanced experience for students who already have some radio produc- tion experience. Students are regular participants in the daily broadcasts of the student radio station.
COMM 2561 Radio Performance Lab
Department: Communication
Credits: 2-
Description: Prereq: Concurrent with COMM 2560. This is the lab portion of the radio performance class. The lab provides real experience on-the-air at the student radio station and in the audio lab.
